me as a powerpuff girl

in which I go on about my shoe love for too long

11.14.04 - 11:22 p.m.

What to wear: It's so typical, but without my jeans, I would be a lost woman. It's a terrible shame that I'm not allowed to wear them at the office, because I do have a wonderful selection. Also, shoes. Always shoes. I often plan my outfit around which pair I'd like to wear that day. And never, ever the same pair twice in one week.

What NOT to wear: I'm with Heather here. Please, please stop the '80s fashion revival. Right now. It was not a good idea the first time! It was a step LOWER than the style of the disco era, and that's saying a lot. Bootcut is your friend. Tapered is not.

What to shoe: They scare Dan's dad, but I am quite fond of (and quite comfortable in) the pointy-toed heel. Lately I've delved into pointy-toed flats, and wear my Pumas to and from work nearly every day, but the heel is classic for a reason, folks.

Biggest Shopping Splurge: We're talking about clothes, not home/electronics or any other category, right? Cause if it's the latter, I'd say my iPod (though mostly purchased with birthday money) or my Mixmaster. If it's the former, I'm almost too embarrassed to note the number of expensive shoes I own. My favorite, however, will always be the Armani d'orsay pumps.

Fashion Security Blanket: See "what to shoe." Specifically, my red patent-leather Isaac Mizrahi slingbacks will liven up any outfit. I also depend on my green khaki J.Crew blazer or a good old black shirt (tank, shell, t-shirt, cardie) when the going gets tough.

Favorite Historical Period: If we're being practical, I can't imagine actually living in any time period earlier than the 1940s, but I'd especially like to be around for the British Invasion and then for Andy Warhol's Factory.

What to see (movie): Sadly, I never go to the actual cinema, due to the fact that I'm always spending money on BOOZE, FOOD and SHOES. But I do plan on seeing The Incredibles someday. Also, soon, Ocean's Twelve.

Favorite Bad Movie: Can there really be any other answer to this question than Center Stage? Every person I've forced into watching this movie - man, woman, and child - has come away with a newfound devotion to the film. The final dance will bring a tear to your eye...from laughing so hard.

What to listen to: It's almost Christmas, so I expect everyone to be listening to Alabama's "Santa Claus (I Still Believe in You), but I've also been listening to the new R.E. M. album (Around the Sun), and bringing it back old school with Pearl Jam's Ten.

What to eat: cheese! I will never, ever, give up my cheese. Or lately, turkey BLTs. Or often, clams. Always pasta with peas, onions and prosciutto.

Where to eat it: I've been trying to keep track of my eating whereabouts here. So the last where was Schiller's, but I'm also planning a culinary assault on Otto, Hearth, Extra Virgin and Cacio e Pepe. (Sense a theme?) And for our honeymoon, French Laundry and Chez Panisse.

Morning Person or Night Owl?: Somehow in the past three years I've gone from night owl to morning person. As a student, it was an act of God to get me out of bed before 9 or 10, but since I joined the working world, I'm happily up by 6:30 every day. Somewhere along the line I've turned into a responsible member of society.

Worst Vice: Biting my lips, talking to fill silences when I'm nervous, impulse shopping on the way home from work, too much red wine..oops. that's four worst vices.

Most Thrilling Famous Person Meeting: Meeting Adam Duritz when I was 18 (and drunk, and in New Orleans, and he was with Courteney Cox) remains the most personally exciting celebrity meeting. I was too stupid to say more than "hi,I'm Casey" to him at the time, but I was smart enough to stalk him through Jackson Square back to his hotel. Oh, Adam. If only I were a little older and knew how much of a man-whore you were, despite your pineapple-shaped-ness, who knows how things might have turned out?

Color That Best Represents Your Personality: Orange, without a doubt. (Like there was any other choice.) Though I'm a good New Yorker and wear black on a near-daily basis, orange is my favorite color and like me, is sufficiently happy and a little offbeat.

Latest Obsession: A black trench, a pair of tuxedo pants, more cashmere sweaters, another pair of black boots, getting the apartment guest-worthy in time for our dinner party next Friday, baking a batch of scones and a batch of cupcakes, selling my car.

A Recurring Dream: That I'm walking around topless - not naked, just topless - or that I'm trying to get somewhere but I'm late and I can't make it to my destination for the life of me.

the night before - the morning after
